Organization
The Missionary Society of St Thomas the apostle (MST) (https://www.mstworld.org/), a missionary society was founded on 22 February 1968 in India the envisioned of living the values of Jesus and sharing the same with people of all faiths and cultures, anywhere in the world, in line with mission ad gentes, for establishing a more harmonious society. In 1993, responding to the invitation from the Bishop of Kigoma, we began our Mission in Tanzania. In 2006 we began to extend our service in Chengena, in Namtumbo District, in the archdiocese of Songea in Ruvuma Region. Thereby, we instituted an NGO to organize the different Socio – Cultural & Economic programmes for the upliftment of the underprivilaged people here in Tanzania, like the centers for empowerment and rehabilitation for differently challenged children, orientation and medical assistance to people affected by HIV/AIDS, awareness and protective programmes for addressing environmental issues, poverty alleviation programmes, youth animation and leadership programmes, addressing gender issues like discrimination, child trafficking, fighting social evils like corruption, extremism and communal violence, hygiene, health and medical care programmes etc. The Social Work Department of MST in Songea is coordinating the different community building programmes of all the MST missionaries in other missions in Tanzania like Tegete mission and Bunda Mission, East and West part of Tanzania respectively.
